Lee Hazlewood Fansite >>> FAQ
- I just discovered the music of Lee Hazlewood. How to start collecting?
The most interesting albums to obtain are:
- 'Trouble is a lonesome town' (originally issued on vinyl in 1963; re-issued by Smells Like Records in 1999 but out of stock now)
- 'These boots are made for walkin' - The complete MGM recordings' (re-issue on CD of three MGM albums by Ace Records in 2002 and still available)
- 'Nancy & Lee' (originally issued on vinyl in 1968; re-issued by Rhino as 'Fairy tales and fantasies, the best of Nancy & Lee' in 1989 in a small quantity but out of stock now. Tracks of this album can also be found on various Nancy Sinatra CD compilations.)
- 'Love and other crimes' (originally issued on vinyl in 1968; re-issued by Rhino Handmade in 2007 as part of the 2CD set 'Strung out on something new: The Reprise recordings' and still available)
- 'Cowboy in Sweden' (originally issued on vinyl in 1970; re-issued by Smells Like Records in 1999 but out of stock now)
- 'Poet, fool or bum'/'Back on the street again' (re-issue on one CD of these two albums on the Zonophone label in 2004 and still available)
- Can I find DVD's of Lee's TV specials and movies anywhere?
The Swedish company Klubb Super 8 had issued some of Lee's TV specials and the 'Smoke' and 'A house safe for tigers' movies in VHS format around 2000. They are out of stock now and not available in DVD format. But in an irregular way the VHS tapes are offered on eBay. Some unauthorized and inferior quality DVD's copied from VHS are circulating.
The movie 'The moonshine war' (1970) in which Lee had a major role was available in VHS format but is out of stock now and - as far as I know - not available in DVD format.
- Why are not all the albums re-issued in CD format?
There are at least two possible reasons:
1. The album will not sell in great quantities.
2. The copyrights of (part of) the album belong to third parties and buying these rights - e.g. in licence - is not profitable.
- Is it true that Lee made some unissued recordings?
Yes, it is known that one song titled 'Moochie LaDeux' was recorded but the master disappeared. Some other songs were recorded but are not published like:
- 'Tequila makes her clothes fall off', the final Nancy & Lee recording. This duet song is not included on Nancy's latest CD album.
- A bunch of cover songs that were meant for a Nancy & Lee duet album around 1969 of which 'Love is strange' and 'Tired of waiting for you' were issued on the Nancy Sinatra CD albums 'Sheet music' (1998) and 'You go-go girl!' (1999).
- For Lee's last CD album 'Cake or death' Lee did the duet song 'Leather and lace' with French singer La Grande Sophie (LGS) but it was not included on the album. La Grande Sophie wrote also a song titled '77' for Lee's birthday in 2006.
- Lee has also recorded a duet song with French singer Emilie Simon. This one was not finalized.
